Re: The DangerI should post some photos of the rope wear too...
You are right, Jacek. The sandstone is incredibly soft and I can imagine climbing this with an ice ax - that would really cause tons of harm. I think it is beautiful to summit desert towers, but the quality of the rock is much better elsewhere...

Re: The DangerLiba, maybe not a great thing to do...don't need too much advertising about this topic (guess we all just need to be as careful as we can). Just my humble 5 cents :) Great photo, cheers.

Re: The DangerHi Radek, I mentioned ice axes, but I would never do that... I do not like to alter nature that way. It just felt so soft at some spots...

Re: The Danger...For crying out loud ...
Liba, I'm giving you 10/10 for your courage,
but please don't tear up these natural treasures that mean so much to us, and got me
so many darn votes here on SP !!! : ))
Just wondering. How much does the average
climbing rope cost in today's market ???

Re: The Danger...Larry, I was very gentle... did not tear up anything I hope.... did not even scratch my initials on the top of this monument as some other climbers did.... Thanks for giving me points for my courage....

Re: howand cheap one too... I read that he got paid 1$ per month for sort of being in charge of Colorado National Monument...
Well, I admire him for climbing that route in 1911.
