West side approach
We approached the peak from the west via Milligan Rd off exit 211. The route was pretty easy to follow and well cairned. Very pleasant day with temps in the 60s and nice views. Fun hike in great desert scenery.

2nd time a charm
Rick Hartman, Mark Nichols & I got together the day after Christmas & enjoyed a great day together. Summit benchmark located & the register dates back to 1989. Thanks to Rick & Mark for repeating this one for me.

Not quite
Stopped at the 3960 peak due to a badly pulled calf muscle. The hard part was behind Eric and I but since I was moving slowly and was concerned about making my injury worse, I waited for Eric while he went over and tagged the summit. I will return and finish the thing since I know the route now and the roads to get there. Hiking with Eric Noel is always a pleasure so it was great to get out and spend time with him again.

Newman
Hiked up with my buddy Dean and it was good to see him again. Followed Dennis' route which had some route-finding on terrain that was not too hard but near to cliffs. Driving directions from Dennis and Scott were quite helpful.

South Side

Newman - SE Slopes
Agreed - hardest part was getting there! The GPS track of our attempt to find the trailhead is hilarious! It's a short, steep climb. 1.75 miles and 2200' of gain, so it doesn't mess around. Very green out with all the recent rains. Did Picacho in the afternoon to complete a good day of hiking.

Toughest part is getting there
Third try worked for me, turned back twice when I couldn't figure out the road net - lots of sandy washed, fences and private property to get around. Followed roads in from the southeast, and worked my way up a moderate ridge roughly SSE of the summit. Rocky, steep and brushy, but nothing to stop me - the worst section being some sloping rock that required care (and lots of traction). Boatloads of cactus! Great views at the top. Happy to have done it, happy I don't have to go back. Trip Report

FriedMan Peak
One of the first AZ peaks I hiked for prominence
considerations. Parked wife and kids at base - much
too hot and rough for the kiddies - come to think of
it, it was too hot for me as well. Bushwacked up
from south, towers on top are served by chopper.
Hiked to the Newman Peak geocache (GCH0K2) using the route described on the cache page. Starting point was about 1.8mi southeast of the peak. Climbed a steep drainage to a ridgeline, then had an easy hike to the summit. About 1:31 from Jeep to peak.
