Product Description

The MontBell Men's Ultralight Down Inner Jacket is warmer than a heavyweight fleece and lighter than most base layers—it's ideal for alpine climbing and other adventures in which weight is vital. MontBell stuffed the water-repellent Ballistic Airlight nylon shell with 800-fill down so you stay warm on that frozen waterfall. Compressing smaller than the size of a water bottle and weighing only 6.9 ounces, the Ultralight Down Inner jacket provides excellent insulation in cold weather and is hardly noticeable in your pack.

Bottom Line: Leave your bulky fleece at home and bring the MontBell Ultralight Down Inner jacket.

My Experience

I have the previous version which was called a sweater, it had snaps and no pockets. This new version has a zipper and 2 pockets, and is supposed to be a few tenths of an ounce lighter and is the same price ($140).

It is a great lightweight jacket, this and a ultralight shell were all I wore over my base layer in camp, including thru the High Sierra in June.

Great Insulation
Ive been testing jackets and various other layers for the publication I work for. Sadly as you may have noticed most reviews are on the positive side - very simple reason, publications have to keep advertisers happy. This Jacket from my experience is the BEST available for men. it is not a jacket though, its a very lightweight insulation layer that should take the place of a bulky fleece layer or two, under something robust. Its prone to tearing etc, the cut and details are great and the warmth unbeatable. Kicks Patagucci out of the game. Another one worth looking at is the GoLite, excellent womens cut (very complementary) but all in all of the five ultralight layers I tested this one is the one I bought. Great brand, great fit, great design - LOVE IT.
