"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."

West FaceVery cool to visit this seldom climbed peak. Straight up the west face from Royce Lakes after visiting Bear Claw Spire, Merriam, Royce, and Feather. Very sandy but possible to keep to solid rock out of the chutes. Gained the ridge too far left and got into some interesting 4th class on the ridgeline to get to the flat summit area. The summit is an awesome blade that is very easy to climb, unexposed 3rd class to put your arms on it, if you have a death wish just sit on top.

west ridgeeasy scramble up the west ridge from Black Bear Lake. Found two different summit registers, one of them nicknamed the mountain "Black Bear Peak". Sat atop the summit pinnacle with one leg dangling off the east side, with hundreds of feet of exposure.
