Plains along Rio Colca

Plains along Rio Colca

If it wasn't so dry up here, the plains along Rio Colca (here seen south of the river between Tuti and Sibayo) look like a fine place to grow some crops - after removing some of these boulders of course. In theory, Rio Colca could be used for irrigation, but these plains lie a bit higher, so either the water would have to be pumped up or a very long irrigation channel would have to be built to bring water from far upstream. And even if this would be worth the effort, using the river water for irrigation would mean that there would be less water further downstream. 6 May 2011.
