"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."

Mittlerer Ramolkogel (3515m), August 1992I didn't go as far as the Grosser Ramolkogel (3596m), but I am rather proud of having gotten up to the Mittlerer Ramolkogel, which is categorized in the guide of the Ă–tztal Alps as a difficulty grade II mountain, and after all, as I wrote on my profile, I'm not a climber. I set out early in the morning from the Ramolhaus (the colors on that morning at I think it was 6:00 a.m. were just out of this world - the first sunlight on the horizon gleaming like solid gold - I should have had a camera with me on that day!!!!!!!), went past the Ramoljoch and up the north ridge - which was tricky, but I did it - to the summit. Much as I would have loved to continue, I realized that the ridge connecting the Mittlerer and Grosser Ramolkogel was more than I would have been technically apt to. But already the Mittlerer Ramolkogel has a considerable altitude and is a magnificent viewpoint - I especially remember that glorious view to the Pustertal in it's entire length! I then scrambled down the blocks of the eastern ridge, crossed the glacier, and continued via Ramoljoch (3186m) towards the Martin-Busch-Haus.
