Comedy of Errors
I took what I thought was a use trail to the Southwest ridge and lost the trail, and ended up in the bowl, circumventing or crossing massive snowfields and avoiding brush. Climbed up blocky boulders of the 'south face' and made it finally to the main ridge. From there went to volcanic sculpture of a summit block and failed to get on top ...of the wrong pinnacle. Then took the ridgeline down but lost the trail about 100 yards from Meiss lot. But...still a great outing and beautiful breezy day.

Beautiful Winter ascent with brother Jesse.
Set out on snowshoes from the parking lot, on up to the main ridge line and continued up towards and to the base of the "middle" peak (it saddles Red Peak proper.) At this point we decided to have some crampon/axe fun, heading up between the large rock outcroppings on the right side (instead of going left and around them towards the west). Up the snow gully we went, heading straight up for some time and then slightly towards the upper rocks on the right side, at which point we traversed right between two sections of said rock, scrambling around between them and up the other side a bit, leaving the rock for some "combined" climbing, where the rock and snow meet (staying on the rock would have been easier, hindsight and all) and finally on up the crest to the top of "middle" peak. Here you get some amazing views of Lake Tahoe and the Desolation Wilderness, Pyramid Peak and surrounding areas around Carson Pass. From there we went slightly down to the edge of the shoulder, where skiers drop into the bowl that leads on down towards Red Lake/88, then we were on our way up again towards the faux summit and finally on to the summit proper. To get to the summit, we scrambled up to a notch where you can see off both sides, we went slightly up a bit and then down a precarious section where you can't fall and on to a ledge that goes to the left for 20-30 feet, at which point, we climbed up left again through an even smaller notch and on up to the summit. Amazing views of the surrounding peaks, including Stevens, Elephants Back, Round Top and Black Butte; nice views of Hope Valley, Caples Lake and Kirkwood as well. Got down from the summit and headed north/east past the blocks a bit so we could see off the edge and down to Crater Lake between Red Lake and Stevens Peaks. Just a beautiful day all around with amazing winter views, nice snow, some fun little scrambles and a gorgeous sunset for the trip back to the car, arriving right at dark.

After work quickie
Quick after work lap. Windy up there! Fun exciting scrambling on the (presumably) higher north summit block. Awesome views of course. 1 hr 20 min car to car.
Part of a hike that began with Red Lake Peak, and continued to Crater Lake, and Stevens Peaks. Then down to Round Lake, and back to Carson Pass via Meiss Meadow.

Fun and definitely a bit scary
We were a group of four and three of us made it to the summit spire. It was definitely kind of hard to identify which spire was the true summit, so we made some false starts on the wrong spires. Eventually we found the right one, and I traversed across the top to get to the one that had the summit log.

Dayhike
Steep, short ascent from Meiss Meadow Trailhead. The wind was back again today and it started snowing on us halfway up. At the summit we enjoyed a brief moment of clarity and took in the views. We ran down back to the car as the wind and snow were picking up.

Via Carson Pass, SW Ridge
What a great peak with fun scrambling at the top! Climbed all the crags at the top; the register is on the northern most one. I asscended the crag from the north and followed the knife edge the the summit, class 4, descended a gully on the east face, class 3.

Wanted to get a peak in before the snow came. This was a fun and challenging hike with an interesting scramble to get up to the summit. Windy as hell, but a super fun day.

2X with Stevens
From Carson Pass, with my brother. Wound up not needing the snowshoes, but the microspikes helped for traction on the steep exposed slopes just under the summit of Red Lake. Continued on to Stevens for the OGUL double.

Winter, Red Lake Peak
Warm winter day, plenty of snow to walk on, sun, and next to no wind anywhere along the route. Brought snowshoes, wore them up to first ridge but ditched 'em there and hoofed it the rest of the way. Enjoyed company on the upper half with a couple of back-country folks who took the quick way down on board and skis.
Hiked up with my dogs in the snow from the pullout near Road 91/Alhambra Mine Road/Alpine Mine Road along HWY 88 in Hope Valley to the outlet on the east shore of Crater Lake. We then headed northwest up the melted out ridge north of the lake to join the partially snowy normal south ridge route from Red Lake Peak to Stevens. I thoroughly enjoyed traversing the ridge south to Red Lake Peak with partial snow coverage after tagging Stevens. We looped down the northeast slopes of Red Lake Peak, waving at Crater Lake to our left on the way back to the parking area along HWY 88. We saw no other visitors on a Monday, but lots of ski tracks and a few snowshoe tracks in the bowls and gullies of both peaks from the weekend.

With Stevens
Christmas hike of Red Lake followed by Stevens starting from the Carson Pass Sno Park. Somewhat tricky summit block on Red Lake, went up the false summit blocks first only to have redo the climb on the correct blocks. Could not locate register on Red Lake, but found one on Stevens. Tried to hook up with the TRT and PCT off of Stevens but wound up in snowshoe hell for 3 hours trying to get back to the Sno Park. Trip report is HERE.
