Our second hike of the day- San Leandro Hills HP being the first. Starting from the Sibley parking lot seemed too easy for us, so we started in adjacent Huckleberry Botanical Preserve to pad the miles a bit by following the trail down to San Leandro Creek and then climbing out to the north to tag the peak. A nice peak bagging day to celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary.

Volcano!
First explored this area as a kid, long before it was a park, and had no idea at the time it has the rich volcanic history that it does. As a so-called summit, well, between the trees and the antennas and all, it's a claustrophobic summit experience, but a short walk to one of the hilltop highpoints in the park to the east, and you'll get that feeling as you look over much of Contra Costa County.

Quick Walk
Quick trip on a sunny day. Park was pleasant enough but not quite as great as I'd hoped. Suppose there were just a few too many people and a lot too many antennaes. Went to Briones Park two weeks earlier and found it to be a lot more remote feeling (happened to be a slightly clearer day too).

On a wet spring day
The red volcanic ridges nearby look sweet, though - especially in contrast to the green hillside in spring.

If I rememberIt was some time in the mid 90's. A lot of towers and trees and fences and not much of a view.
