It's been about 40 years since last time to Sardine
Been meaning to get back to Sardine. It was a great day and views. Could see Adams and Rainier in the distance.
Hiked with my son Scott and my dog Keeva

great spring outing
Fun family scramble to great views from Mt Hood to Diamond Peak and every high volcano and old cascades peak in between Didn't see a soul all day, save a hiker on Dome Mt a mile away.

Two flat tires later!
Finally climbed this one, it had been on my list for some time now. A friend and I came at it from the North East which we found to be a nice alternative way wit a little more brush, but better huckle berries. I got a flat tire on the drive up and my spare blew out on the way down. I had to patch the tire in Detroit with a tire plug kit and it got me back to Salem with out a problem. Allways going to cary one from now on!!

Short Hike Up
With Annie and Casey the Mountain Dog. Almost a sort of trail in the beargrass to where it opens up. Quick and easy. Excellent views on a gorgeous day. Could see from Rainier to Diamond Peak. Marys Peak was large in the west too. Lots of flying ants at the summit. Lost the trail on the way down and Annie did the Xterra commercial thing where she beeped my horn from the key remote and then we headed in the right direction to find the "trail" again.

First of three
I headed up to Knutson Saddle to try and hit three different highpoints this morning. The first was Sardine here, which had the best view I would see this day. I was able to see Rainier, which I think was a first for me from Oregon (other than I time I could vaguely make it out from marys peak). I could also make out Adams and everything south of it to Diamond Peak. Lots and lots of bugs up here. Pretty easy hike from the road, but again, great view. Off to Dome Rock...

Surprise Rock!
Driving near this mountain in the past summers, I had always seen it as "just a grassy hill". After hiking up to the top and realizing it was a lot larger than it looked, it was surprising to see the rocky ridge that continues from the summit. It was amazing to see what I had been missing out on all this time!

Sardine Creek Loop
Colleen and I made it up Sardine Creek Road to 2900’ and a downed tree. We walked the road for about 1.5 miles on top of 3 foot of consolidated snow. We cut through the forest and came out on the Southern ridge. After reaching the summit we planned our way back to the car. We decided to take the ridge North and descend the Northwest ridge. We cut down the loose rock slope of the West face and ended up right back at the car (with help from my GPS). We packed our snowshoes but never put them on

Did this a couple times this year. Usually after a trip to Dome Rock or some other exploration. This is a little known area. I Don't see too many people up here. There's lots of rock around with deep steep canyons.
