Shaken not stirred

Taken inside the Argentière Glacier the ice route we climbed started 15mts inside the snout of the glacier at the backwall in this shot and eventually exited through a crevasse onto the surface further up hill. These huge, smooth ice-bolders reflected fantastic colours; turquoise, pinks and blues - sadly not captured very well by the little point and shoot camera I carried at the time. The solid nature of the ice gives an indication of the intense, still cold. Were it not for the low temperature and the slight anxiety that this great beast might clamp its jaws shut at any moment, we might have stayed longer. An atmospheric location for a cocktail bar.

Those

ice boulders are pretty interesting looking. Kind of like giant crystals. Quite an interesting ascent!

Re: Those

yes, the ice boulders were bullet hard and quite clear and clean, compared to much of the ice inside the glacier which contained a lot of grit and big rocks.
