I've heard...

rattle snakes taste like chicken. Good thing I just had dinner!

Re: I've heard...

I've heard everything tastes like chicken. A few years ago, on TV, they blind folded a number of chefs and fed them chicken, snake, alligator, armadillo, rabbit...Many thought they were eating chicken.

Hi(salam)

Is it a dangerous snake?

Re: Hi(salam)

This particular one was fairly small. I have seen much bigger snakes in Arizona.

I assume that this is a rattlesnake (Mar Zangi). I certainly do not want to be bitten by it when I am hiking all alone in the middle of nowhere.

Re: Hi(salam)

Small rattlers are more dangerous than the big ones. The young/small ones deliver all of their venom in one bite where as the large ones spare their venom for hunting. Most of the time the large ones just want to get you to leave them alone, so they deliver dry bites, no venom. But, the big ones put more meat on your dinner table.

Looks a lot like

a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Crotalus atrox. I wonder if the reason they don't rattle is because so many of the ones that did rattle were killed off by people and the only ones left are those that didn't draw attention.

Re: Looks a lot like

Thanks for the info. I would rather be warned by the rattle.
