Spitler Peak trail closed
Not able to climb Spitler Peak trail, it is closed due to fire damage. Not sure when this will reopen, but signs in the parking area say the area is closed.

Apache and Spitler
Took the Forbes trail up through the new burn. The slopes are washing away and the trail is now hard to follow in places after the fire.

From PCT
2nd peak of the day from the PCT. Left packs at trail junction and hiked the use trail up to the top. Breezy and nice - kept the bugs down!

from both sides
I've hiked this one from both the Apple Canyon and Fobes Ranch trailheads. Via Fobes is easier, but Apple Canyon is more scenic. There's a reliable spring a couple of hundred yards off the Fobes trail, just below the junction with PCT. There are a couple of decent places to camp along the Fobes Ranch road.

First SoCal Summit!
On my recent trip to my hometown of Palm Desert, my brother and I climbed this peak! It was a brisk day but the sun was shining brightly! There is a lot of peak-bagging to be had in Socal!!

Desert Divide
One of the peaks we bagged while approaching from the Fobes trail and leaving from the Devil's Slide. A quick one we got along the PCT. Pretty warm today.

From Fobes Saddle
Was supposed to be number 3 for the day, but alas was only number 2. Easy to find use trail with rewarding views from the summit.

Deep snow and high winds
Snow was minimal from the trailhead to the PCT. It appeared that I was the first one up to the peak since it last snowed. There was no fresh powder, but no tracks from the PCT up to Spitler Peak. I learned a lot from this and next time will be prepared with gaitors, and snowshoes just in case. The snow was waist deep and pretty soft on top so I fell through most of the time. It made it pretty difficult. Very windy on the North side, but a few trees at the top got you out of it. If there really are registers, they are buried or I just didn't see them!

Desert Divide - North
The last of 7 peaks for our not so complete Desert Divide hike (should have read Blair's comment above before the hike). Easy ascent but we still had the exit via Fobes Trail and then the dirt road back to the highway to go before trying to hitchhike north or south. We got lucky when an soil engineering team picked us up just short of the highway. With Bob Burd.

Windy summit!
Deb and I summited this peak first in our fun-to-fucked up day in the woods. I was on the false summit and Deb shouted to me " The summit is over here". We signed the registers, and were off!

Absolutely beautiful day with minor snow coverage on PCT to Spitler Peak. Lots of wind but that did not deter our mood!
