Ridge from Red Lake
Simple walk along the ridge from Red Lake. About 1/2 the ridge was snow covered, the rest blown clean.

January
Great winter alpine climb, the steep snow slope added spice!

a nice combo
Ended up parking somewhere on Alpine Mine Rd once I realized that the rocks were gonna eat my cars underside. Took the NE ridge up to the top of Red Lake, headed north to Stevens, then down the SE ridge of Stevens. Didnt see a soul up there.
Needing some "air time" before heading for Mexico to climb the high volcanoes we spent a couple of days wandering around the Sierra and decided that we would climb Stevens from the highway. I learned here that leather gloves do not keep your hands warm.

from the east
pretty much came straight up from the highway. scrambled up from the east. it was definitely more "interesting" than the walk up from the other side. nice weather, pretty much no snow, but windy at the top.

Bagged Red Lake first, and then Stevens. Took about two hours to bag both peaks. The descents along the connecting ridge are pretty tricky. We signed the log book.

Started from a turnout on highway 88 and came up the east face. Clear, but cool and windy. Register needs a couple ziploc bags and a pen that works.

COLD!
Traversed from Red Lk. Pk. Blowing snow and temperatures in the low-mid teens. No views at all. Had to dig the summit register pads out of the snow - previous visitor or nature had dumped the contents on the ground.

Red Lake traverse
Great views with a storm rolling in. Kane and I hit this peak after hiking over from Red Lake Peak. Excellent hike that was well worth the effort.

Perfect winter overnighter
Traversed from Red Lake Peak after spending the night at ~9900'. The views were amazing, temps were warm and what little wind we encountered was isolated to the evening.

Route Climbed: South Ridge Date Climbed: April 24, 2005A snowy, wintry day in late April. Clouds invaded the summit prior to our arrival, so we barely had view from one summit point to the next.
