Sarcoscypha ?If found in winter maybe a Sarcoscypha coccinea, else most probably Sarcoscypha Austriaca (which is not restricted to Austria). Easy to distinguish only by microscopy or by knowing what rotten wood it grows on. In german it is called Kelchbecherling or sometimes Prachtbecherling. Indeed a mushroom for the photographers ;-)

Re: Sarcoscypha ?I think you're right - I found same data in croatian mushroom literature. This mushroom I found few times, always in early spring ( also below the snow ), always on the branches of the Robinia Preudoacaccia, sometime in large quantity on the same place. When you cooked or boiled this mushrom, no matter how long, he wil not change consistency or color - he is always the same as on the picture. You can eat this mushrom ( belive me, I try ), but he was never soft as other mushroms but can be usefull for dish decoration.
