The Northeast Fork (a.k.a. Valley of Death)
June 21st, 2008 - Looking up the NE Fork of the Kahiltna Glacier at around 1 a.m. The Kahiltna Peaks are on the right, Denali rises 11,000 ft above. The Cassin Ridge can be seen cutting across the face.
This valley is also known as the Valley of Death as it is heavily crevassed and avalanches on the Kahiltna Peaks pour across most of the valley (plus a team of climbers once disappeared in here). It is the original approach to the West Rib and the Cassin Ridge routes.
