Tolmie Peak
Nice rocky hike out to the true summit. The mosquitoes that find you at Eunice Lake follow you all the way to the summit

Beautiful Summit
Beautiful Summit with fantastic views. Lots of fires made visibility pretty bad but we did get a nice dip in Mowich Lake after we got done. Very refreshing.

Fun hike but poor visibility
A fun hike. I had broken my ankle in September climbing in Leavenworth and I had been given permission to start walking November 1st and by mid December I was itching to get outside again. Broke my CV joint on my 4Runner on the road to Mowich trailhead, road was pretty washed out in spots. No snow until about 4000ft, didn't need snowshoes until I got to Eunice lake. Got some great winter waterfall pictures on the way. Didn't quite make it all the way up, my pace was slower than expected from my injury and I ran out of daylight time. Snow came in up at 5000ft or so and visibility dropped a ton, never saw Rainier and at times the lookout tower was not visible from Eunice lake.

Fire Lookout
Hiked up to the fire lookout on a perfect September Sunday morning with my 5 year old daughter. Probably the best kids hike we have done.

Amazing!
Stopped by while doing a 2-night backpack on the Mother Mountain loop. Well worth the side trip for the stunning views!

Bad Weather Despite Great Peak
This was my second visit to a fire lookout structure that day. A major storm was moving into the Northwest, and a looming "government shutdown" was threatening to possibly close the access gate (approximately 4.3 miles from the TH) for a while starting a few days after my visit. It was raining, cold, and windy, but I was pleasantly shocked to find many other hikers on the trail the same day. The lookout was already locked-up for the year. The true summit was attained while the winds lessened for a while.
Trail is nearly snow free - only the lake area still has significant snow.

Parked at the closed gate 3 mi. from Mowich Lake
2-3' of snow at Eunice lake, which was totally frozen over. The lookout tower was recently shuttered for the winter.

Tolmie Peak
My parents would not go past Eunice Lake back in '81, so I had to come back to get this one.

True summit and lookout
Trail up to the Lookout was easy and relaxing. I will take BearQueen there in the near future. The bootpath from the lookout to the true summit could best be described as faint and exposed. Still a walk up but you should have some comfort with exposure. That being said the true summit has BY FAR the better views!!

Way back when..
Did it way back when.. 24 years ago? Ipsut Creek CG was
accessible back then, and it was always a fun hike over Ipsut Pass.
I also did Florence Peak from the Boundary Trail in winter.

4 Peaks On Winter Solstice
Bryan, Maria and I did 4 peaks today via the old Boundary Trail. We started with Virginia Peak and Berry Peak. Then we worked out way over to the Tolmie Peak lookout and actual summit. Finally we came all the way back to do Martin Peak before descending. Not bad for the shortest day of the year.

Route Climbec: Mowich Lake --> Eunice Lake
Crowded day at the Mowich Lake trailhead. It was a fee free weekend in the national parks and cars were lined up 1/2 a mile or more down the road from the parking lot. Not as many on the Tolmie trail though... Nice little moderate hike to the summit. Clouds were covering Rainier but it made for a nice sea of clouds view of the other surrounding peaks. I scrambled around past the lookout to the true summit, and played around glissading on some remaining snow and climbing some rocks. I found a nice cliff to hang out on with amazing views of a beautiful valley. Very rewarding to head past the lookout, actually got some solitude. I'll have to head back. It was nice.
