Backpacked to Thornton Lakes, set up camp, then scrambled up Trappers before dinner. Fun climb, incredible views from the top, a new favorite!

Incredible
My first summit in the real North Cascades. What a view! Huge cornices on the ridge.

Trappers
Hiked from Thornton Lakes trailhead. This was my only good weather day while visiting the North Cascades. Thankfully the view of the Pickets and surrounding area was awesome.

PICKETS!
Climbed with Maddie on the hottest day of the year so far (88!). It was a sweaty hike through the woods though, luckily. Veiws start at the pass basically, and they get dramatic quick! The Pickets, Mount Triumph, and the many glaciers made this trip an instant favorite.
01/11/15 Summited and spent the night on the summit. The sun rise was glorious and the mountains revealed themselves in their winter cloaks (Instagram: @moonmountainman)
09/04/17 Sunset hike. My daughter Zoey's first summit at just over 4 months old.

Cloudy but Still Beautiful!
It was a cloudy day, but we still had pretty amazing views from the ridge to the summit. Pickets were mostly socked in though.
This was essentially a walk-up, but I was surprised at how rugged the trail was - all the way to the ridge. And I was surprised by the lack of views until you get to the ridge. It definitely is a walk in the woods until the ridge! But after that, the eye candy is amazing!
The drive to the trailhead was less of an issue than advertised. At least when we were there any 2WD vehicle could easily make it. A few steep gravel sections near the top, but no big problem.
Climbed before the bivy at the col before climbing Triumph. A neat peak!

Trappers Peak
Probably my first 'good' hike when I was just starting out, the full meal deal from valley floor to summit.

Very cool peak
What a wonderful day! Later in the day the sun came out and we got a great view of the Pickets along with other peaks seen from here. Can't wait to hit up this area again!

OUTSTANDING
I have found a new respect for the Pickets. When they first came into view I started freaking out and making a lot of noise. This is one of the most scenic hikes I've done all year. I'm going to recommend it to all the hikers I know. From the summit we continued along the ridge to "X Mountain".

Beautiful fall hike
What a beautiful way to end the major hiking/climbing season. Phenomenal views of the Pickets from the summit, especially Mt. Triumph. Blueberries are perfectly in season, no encounters with bears but did see signs of them. Camping at Thornton Lakes camp this time of year is COLD, but all in all, easy navigation and a great overnight.

I have seen the view from Trappers, and it is spectacularThe only hard part is the dirt chimney at the start of the ridge.
