Up and over.
Might not get any attention were it not for Jove.

Union and Jove
Started along Highway 2 at the Smithbrook Parking Lot. Hiked up the road. After reaching the hairpin turn, left the road and went straight up the side of the mountain until hitting the ridge to Union. From there followed the ridge to Union and then over to Jove. There was a TON of snow up here. No existing tracks beyond part way up the road. The bushwhack up the side of the mountain was very tame. The ridge itself was a workout just trying to work over and around the countless snow drifts. Lots of big icy snow bombs falling off trees along the ridge when the sun hit it. The upper part of the ridge to Jove was a bit nasty with huge drifts and some shooting cracks down the sides of the mountain. Ended up with 360 views at the summit with a little bit of sun. Union was mostly clouded in.

Union Bushwhack
Nice afternoon adventure. Started at Nason Saddle, went on the Jove and “North Jove” for a 3-peak day. Union was the least interesting peak of the three, but still enjoyable. Memorable mosquitoes, and headlamp needed for the final stretch back to the car. Trip Report

No views
No rain, but lots of low clouds and fog. Didn't have any views, which is disappointing. I found the peak to be very anticlamactic, just a big hump at the top, hard to tell what the highest point was. But a good day to be out in the mountains nontheless.

Views are not that great - only worth doing along with Jove.

From Rainy Pass
Hiked from Rainy Pass, then headed over to Jove. Recommend taking the extra mile to Jove, much more open views
Walked in to Union and Jove - the track was reasonable but on-again, off-again as mentioned. Appreciated the guide here. Saw one bear below me on Jove, but no other company all day. A little smoke in the air, but still great views. Steep for me, it took longer than advertised.

Not Enjoyable
I approached the peak from the east. Although it was basically a ridge hike, the path disappeared many times and some minor scrambling was needed. The wet morning brush was awful; I had never been so thoroughly soaked on a non-rainy outing. There are plenty of places to camp or bivy along the ridge and near the summit, if one so desires.

Union Peak slush
Smithbrook track was well established, but after leaving the road conditions became difficult. Large quantities of snow were falling from the trees, making travel beneath them treacherous, but ironically much easier than in the open areas where the snow was soft and wet.

Did I or did I not?
I am not sure if I summitted but believe I did...the views were obscured by rain and fog....see comments for a possible alternate route instead of avalanche boulder scramble...this route took me above the boulders however I did not find a climber's log or USGS marker....so, I am not sure if I truly hit the summit....do over is a MUST when weather clears up.

re-Union with white-outs
Best views were on the approach. All pretty mild except for the insanely steep snow-climb in 6 feet of powder up to the ridge. Weather prevented us from safely getting to Jove. Good work-out with friends.

Union success!
Heavy snow all the way up with near-whiteout conditions and a heavy wind chill on the summit. I'm sure this peak has good view but I only saw ten to twenty feet in front of me. Was going to continue to Jove but weather forced this to be the only summit on this day.
It's a lot easier when you follow the abandoned Nason Ridge trail!

Made it to about 5200 feet on the south ridge March 22, 2009 and was turned around by unconsolidated snow. Returned 3 years later to get Union and Jove.
