Tracy on Hamblin Mtn.

Tracy on Hamblin Mtn.

I've been meaning to post this for quite some time! This is Sp-member 'Tracy' on the northeast ridge of Hamblin Mountain, which is 1/2 of an ancient stratavolcano that was cut in half by an earthquake fault in what is now Southern Nevada. To see Tracy, I suggest you click on the photo. He's standing on top of the volcano's ridgetop, immediately to the left of the helicopter that's flying overhead. The mountain's summit is 'off-photo' to the right. I can honestly state without a doubt that the helicopter had nothin' to do with dropping Tracy off onto the mountain. He climbed up there under his own power. It had been on his LIST for a very long time. Please click HERE for route info and geology. March 21, 2008

Thanks, Larry

Great shot of the guy who left you waiting for an hour while he fulfilled his peak bagging ambitions. At least you put the time to good use. I enjoyed the other photos as well (the ones you posted right after the hike).

Re: Thanks, Tracy

No problem ... I was just taking in the
views, while you were taking in the helicopters! That was Friday, right??
That must be when all those touring flights
come in from the Grand Canyon. By the way,
are you still thinking about doing the
Rim to Rim GC hike?? If you do, please take
a lot of pictures. I was going to take my
wife to the Canyon, but I don't think she's
ready for the Rim to Rim yet. Take care!!

Re: Thanks, Larry

I'm still planning on the R2R on the 23rd of this month. I'm not in the shape I'd like to be, but oh well. In regards to helicopters, they are busy 7 days a week in Lake Mead Nat. Rec. Area. Some summit log entries I've read complain about the constant helicopter noise. I climbed Fortification Hill one night last year under a full moon with NO helicopters. That was cool!

Re: Thanks, Tracy

Yeah, the mechanized wonders of man
don't turn me on very much.

Were you able to get out and do
something for the Memorial Day
Weekend? My thoughts are with you,
even though I seem to be stuck in
Arizona for awhile. Take care.

Re: Thanks

I did the South to North Rim dayhike I had planned on May 23rd. Now I'm in South Carolina for a conference for City Governments. Nest week I'm in So. Cal. and the week after that I'm in the Tahoe area (none of those trips will last a whole week - I'll be at work at least 1 or 2 days each week). I really need to finish my room addition this summer. Talk to ya later!
