This was basically a drive up of the well graded service road. Had to stop and move one rock but other than that the Outback had no issues.
Whole herd of wild horses atop the summit ridge.
Pics and commentary are here.

A Celebration
On the summit we celebrated Eric Kassan's completion of Nevada's county prominence HP list with a bottle of champagne. There was a light breeze, then one sudden gust lifted my almost brand new Tilley hat straight up a hundred yards, then it slowly moved off toward the horizon. Weird.

Drive up
The well graded road to the summit made for an easy first peak of the day. Cloudy, windy and cold (for May). Limited views. I could barely see the doppler tower while I was standing next to it!

Drive
Drove my Forester to the summit station through some snowdrifts and very muddy sections. I wasn't sure I'd be able to make it out, but was able to power through. The view of Pyramid Lake is largely blocked by Pah Rah Mtn. If you have the time, it might be worthwhile to make a side trip over there. We didn't.

Microwave road
There was a cold and steady wind today, but the views from the peak and from Pah Rah Mountain made it worth while.

Cloudy day
It was tricky finding the best place to start the hike. That is why I created the page. Now people will have precise directions. It was a nice day, but cloudy. It took about 2 hours 10 minutes to get to the summit.
