Fascinating ...

Do you have to obtain a permit to visit these
hoodoos ?

Are they located on BLM land?

Re: Fascinating ...

Nope, no permit. It's on BLM land north of the small town of Big Water, Utah. The length of the hike (10 mi RT) keeps the crowds away better than a permit system. It's an "easy" hike, but I just did it last week, and we had to cross Wahweap Creek about 10 times on the way out in ice cold water because you can never tell where the creek is currently running in the mile-wide wash. There's also lots of mud, and some quicksand -- I wound up thigh-deep at one point, very weird experience. It's essentially an annoying hike up a wide wash for 5 miles with relatively mediocre desert scenery with world-class formations at the end. I dragged some family members up there who were literally ready to kill me until we finally got to the hoodoos.
