"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."

Welcome to the Machine4 summits in 4 straight days. Ian (St. George Ian) and I warmed up on Waterfall Dome and then summited Cochise Dome (Triple Direct and You Bet Your Life), End Pinnacle (Welcome to the Machine), Chay Desa Tsay (Wind Madness) and Rockfellow (Labyrinth), encapsulating one of my finer trips in the Stronghold at 58 yrs of age. Welcome to the Machine was my least favorite or interesting route of the trip. But it climbs as well as End Game (popular neighboring route), if not better. Welcome takes on the steep corner on pitch 3 that Endgame avoids and a short stout sequence off the belay is the crux of the route. Pitch 4 is a decent pitch as well.
