Dayhike from Onion Valley
Woke up late to join group to Dragon Peak ('04 Sierra Challenge). Instead, went to Kearsarge Pass and up to Gould to meet the group there. Descended with 2 others, while some went on to Rixford.
Nice hike w/ CP and enjoyed the view for a nice rest on the summit block. Soloed down chute directly N. of Gould and had to chimney down steep avy chute against a 800' chunk of ice and packed snow that dumped into a scree field. Was stoked to find an exit after descending deep into slot and left a :) in the snow for following wanderers. Lakes below were spectacular with sparse use trails till further down.
up - from Kearsarge Pass/down - traverse to Dragon
Fun summit block. Great views. My first time to Kearsarge Pass (and beyond).

Day hike from Onion Valley
After a night at the Onion Valley campground, we hiked up to Gould via the South ridge from Kearsarge Pass. There's a fun little summit block at the top to make the slog up from the pass worthwhile. Great views and great weather.

Gould was good!
Climbed with Allen (see below) as a dayhike from Huntington Beach. Woke up at 3:30am and got back home around 1am. A long but fun day! I tend to get affected by altitude fairly easily and wondered if I would be able to make it from sea-level to 13k feet in a day. I noticed the altitude right at the trailhead. I tried to keep up the pressure breathing and only got a severe headache right near the summit.
Well acclimatized, it definitely would've been easier but it was nonetheless very enjoyable. Awesome scenery and views!

Wonderful day in the Eastern Sierra
Bruno, Chrissy, Tom and I went for a loooooooong drive to Independence, started the trail at 9:30 and finished near 7 PM. Pretty easy. Kearsarge is an easy pass. Gould is very easily attainable. The final summit block is the only exposed section on the whole trip. Fun, fun, fun. Great day except for the smog form the High Desert (lame - tell those people to move) and the smoke form King's Canyon controlled burns.

Slushy snowshoe slog to tiring talus tromp. This hike has beautiful views, but it made me realize I need to whip my buns into better shape soon.

Pleasant Day Hike up South Ridge
Climbed up the south slope from Pothole Lake to the South Ridge. We used snowshoes for quite a bit of the way at the lower elevations, but the peak itself was fine. Gorgeous day, though would have been just a hair nicer without the haze in the distance.

Deb and I climbed up to Gould on our way to Dragon Peak. She had soloed this peak a week prior under windy conditions. Still a bit windy this day as well. Scrambled up the east side of the summit (4th class moves). The short gully to the east, just below the summit, looked in condition. Saw that Joe Dawson (assuming that's the same SP'er joesephdawson) made an entry in September.

Attempted to climb Gould driectly from Kearsarge pass trail. Slogged up talus until ridge was gained. Ended up on rock overhang, should have taken the easy way (Class 1-2 talus slope). Another lesson learned in a beautiful classroom.
