Route Climbed: Art Loeb Trail. Date Climbed: 01-15-2006
My first summit of 2006 was not the one I'd intended. 77 mph winds, frigid temperatures, and heavy snow closed the trailheads I'd wanted to use. So I looked at my trailmaps and located Stony Knob, a trailless summit that would give me a chance for a little bushwhacking.
Down on the lower peaks, the sun came out and the temperatures approached 50, so I was hardly in any danger of freezing or getting bogged down in snow. The hike was very nice through some beautfiul southern cove hardwood forests--the prettiest forests there are, I think.

All in all, a great day.
