A cairn marking the route - but to where?

This is in the Cordillera Negra, a bit west of Ticapampa. It's still pretty low, and there are trails, a few dirt roads and a couple of simple dwellings here. I had a map and my compass, and was following trails or going cross country towards Cerro Huancapeti, but I had no idea where this cairn stood for. 25 June 2011.
