A climber on an easy but very exposed part of Piaz Arete

The Piaz Arete (UIAA grade VI) is a route on the south wall of Sass Pordoi. This is right before it joins the popular and much easier Via Maria (IV+), which is the route we were climbing. With a lot of climbers already on our route, it got a bit crowded, and we had to wait quite a while before it was our turn to continue. In the distance on the left are the glaciated slopes of Marmolada. The diagonal lines nearby are the cables of the cable car operating between Passo Pordoi and the summit of Sass Pordoi. One of the attractions when riding the cable car is getting a close view of the climbers on the south wall of Sass Pordoi. After climbing it, the descent couldn't be easier - unless you're too late to catch the last one of the day, like we did. 7 Aug 2016.
