How difficult a day do you think it would be to start from the lake and do Blanca as well? I know you would have to climb Ellingwood twice but this route has me very interested.....
We studied the ridge to Blanca, which was definately doable, as it is from the Como route. It would definately be best if you backpacked to S. Zapata Lake (as we did), to be able to get an early as possible start and avoid being a lightning rod. I'd already summited Blanca, so we didn't try it. Resummiting Ellingwood really wouldn't be a big deal, as it seemed more of a bump in the ridge compared with Blanca.
