A view W through a gap. Little Jackass Mountain is the 4,387-foot rounded ridge that separates Hozomeen Lake from Ross Lake.

It was just a few years ago that I learned what distinguishes the High Cascades from the Low Cascades. While the Ice Age glaciers covered the range, the High Cascades are the ones that were left exposed and are now sharp peaks. The Low Cascades were completely covered and ground in rounded domes like this.
