From Inner Basin
Hiked it from Lockett Meadow via Inner Basin and Weatherford trails. I left the trail shortly before the saddle with the Humphreys trail. Like gimpilator I also thought the views were nicer than from Humphreys.

If someone tells you that your mother in law will stop butting into your business if you said a prayer on Agassiz Peak, it's a lie.

Two in a day.
Met with rangers and got our free permit for climbing this peak as well as Humphreys.

Skied
Skinned up Snowbowl and then skinned up the upper ridge to Agassiz. The ski descent was rocky for a bit towards the top but then opened up into awesome POWda

From Humphreys
Traverse along the ridge from Humphreys. Even in this low snow year, there was enough snow to climb the peak without trampling whatever plant the tree huggers are trying to save.

Little snow to keep it legal
Climbed this one with a light dusting of snow on it. Patchy, but maybe I am not a criminal for climbing it after all?... Of course, I write this from my new cell in Florence, AZ with armed-robber bunkmate Darrell. Just kidding. If you 'forget' your ID what can they do to send you the $500 fine? Hi officer, my name is Eddie Haskell...

Agassiz to Humphreys traverse
left early and climbed straight up the ski lift to the Agassiz summit. Early 2005 had LOTS of snow (maybe 300% normal), so this felt like a true winter hike.
Traversed over to Humphreys and descended straight down the skiers right side of the snowbowl. trip report

Humphreys-Agassiz
Traversed from Humphreys. Strong wind on the ridge. Nice snowshoe hike.

Overnighter
After doing Humphreys the day before, we camped above the saddle towards Agassiz. Amazing sunset and sunrise! We then did Agassiz early that morning and then went down one of the chutes into Snowbowl where we just followed the runs to the parking lot.

South Face Approach
I decided to take a new approach on this one. I parked on a forest service road about one mile south of the base of Agassiz. I went directly 4000 feet up a steep ridgeline. The last 1000 feet I experienced 50-70 mph winds, 100 mph gusts, negative 11 degree F windchills, and an air temperature of 18 degrees F. This was a difficult route. There was 6 - 12 inches of snow and bare rock.

I didn't
After summitting Humphrey's Peak, I walked over to Agassiz Peak, where I bumped into a sign saying the peak 'is closed to hiking 500 dollars fine'. Although I was the last one on the mountain ... I didn't ... maybe another time when it is snowcovered.

East Approach
Climbed this along with Doyle and Fremont Peak. Was trying to get all seven peaks but was forced off of Agassiz by close lightening strikes. Saw a tree get struck and catch fire on adjacent ridgeline.

Snow climb!
Ground uphill through the snow, then donned crampons above timberline and cruised on the ice and snow up to the beautiful summit of Agassiz. A rare wind-less day and temps in the high 20s on top made the summit a treat. Hiked down on the south side of the Snowbowl area, inside the wilderness. You have to get the permit to do this, but the office doesn't open until 9:00, so don't expect an early start.
Skipped this peak in the summer b/c of the regulations so was glad to do it finally (and legally)
Night Climb. Great sunset. Took my lawn mower and got rid of senecio franciscanus. Now it is legal to climb Agassiz. I followed the trail most of the time since it was dark.

Before it was off limits?
I hiked up this one after hiking up Humphreys on my way back to the top of the ski lift. I had forgotten about it until today when I was looking at some old slides of when I hiked up Humphreys... sure enough, there was a picture I took from the top of Agassiz looking back at Humphreys. I had written on the slide frame, "Me on top of Agassiz." I don't know if the "off-limits" rules were in place then. If they were, I'm hoping the statues of limitations have passed. :)
