Overview
Marmarole
|
Pian dei Buoi ( plateau of the oxen ) is a lovely alpine plateau situated on the eastern slopes of the
Marmarole group. It can be reached from
Lozzo di Cadore by car in the summer ( by a very adventurous mountain road, you can go only up from 9 to 14.00 and only down from 14.00 to 19.00 ) and only with snowshoes or motor-sleds in the winter.
This place is wonderful in every season, and the views are really breathtaking, some of the best of the whole dolomitic range. Hiking around the plateau you can enjoy stunning views of the
Crìdola group, Spalti di Toro, Cima dei Preti and Duranno, Antelao, Croda Bianca, the eastern group of the Marmarole, the whole south-eastern group of the Dolomiti di Sesto, the western part of the Carnic main ridge, i Brentoni and an amazing view of the great
Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
There are two alpine huts in this area:
Rifugio Ciareido ( eastern slopes of the
Ciarido group, 1969 m ) and
Rifugio Baion “E.Boni” (
Colle San Pietro, southern slopes of
Ciastelin, 1828 m ), that can be used as base for many alpinistic ascents in the
Marmarole or for different kind of hikes in a wonderful unspoilt environment.
