"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."

Route Climbed: Sunday: Hohlaubgrat, Tuesday: Normal Date Climbed: Su 8 and Tu 10th of August 2004Sunday:
Hohlaubgrat under threatening storms and snowing practicaly all the time... The rock step at the end of the ridge was totaly powdered, quite tricky. Especialy with the memory of the east-face from last year's trip to Strahlhorn, thinking that it was just a few feet to the left of me at that moment. Practicaly no view from summit. But nevertheless, it was a very nice route, and I'll definitely do it again (hopefully in better conditions then)
Tuesday: A few friends wanted to do the normal-route, so we went up again, and since the weather was much better this time, it was more than worth it. It still remains one of the best views in the alps.

Route Climbed: Normal route from Mittelallalin-station Date Climbed: 23 July 2004Very easy mountain, easy glacier, within 1 hours and 30 minutes at the summit. Nice view on the summit., but not really a 4000-er. Too bad there are a lot of people who are going to the summit.

Route Climbed: NW Ridge / Hohlaub Ridge / North Ridge Date Climbed: july 1996 / july 2004 / july 2006 / july 2007 / july 20151996: A climb I'll never forget. Only eleven years old and my first ascent of a mountain ever. And immediately a fourthousander too. Hopefully the beginning of a neverending story ...
2004: We made an early start, the weather was nice, the conditions too and we were progressing very fast when the weather started to ruin our climb. Turned back at about 3750 m in a snowstorm and freezing temperatures. Already arrived in the Britanniahut at 8 am. Anyway, I'll be back...
2006: Made a second attempt on the Hohlaub Ridge and this time we were successful. The weather was superb, but conditions were very bad. Almost ended up in a crevasse on the Hohlaubglacier, but my companions held the rope tight. No further problems, reached the summit at 9 o'clock.
2007: Ascent of the North Ridge in superb conditions. Made it trough the summit in an hour and a half. Recommended ;-)
2015: For old time's sake once more up to the Allalinhorn via the normal route. It stays an outstanding view point.

Route Climbed: Normal ascent Date Climbed: 13 september 2003First 4000m peak and being honest: it was easy! Only 500 altitude meters, but what a view!!! Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Italian plains, Monte Rosa,...
The only downside being such an easy accesable summit: crowded by good weather.
But surely I'll do it again some time, maybe for acclimatisation and for the view

Route Climbed: ENE-"ridge" (i.e. normal route) Date Climbed: 13 september 2003Too bad that it's so crowded up there, but it is a very easy one of course. Nevertheless, I will go back there, the view is just too great and impressive. You can even see Weiss- and Bishorn from the plateau under the summit! Just great. Absolutely one to do again on a quiet early morning.

Groeten, Leon Meijer - Groningen

Route Climbed: Hohlaubgrat traverse normal route Date Climbed: June 1, 2003My second ascent. This time together with Martin (see next entry) and two other friends. Unfortunately one of us experienced a terrifying bad crevasse fall while descending. The lucky guy survived. Thanks to the Airzermatt staff. They really did a very professional and fast job.
