Quick Climb
Worth the climb to get away from the masses on the Grinnell Trail. Easy walk-up with good views of Grinnell Lakes from above.

Technically Difficult
This time of year the trail beyond Thunderbird Falls is ripe with steep snow hazards. We did this after weather thwarted our Kautz Glacier route on Rainier. The technical challenge of protecting the hazard areas was a great practice of rope and anchor skills. A bit cloudy and light snow on the summit but we enjoyed the day nonetheless. With Leila and Chad.

cloudy day
Pretty fun despite my love/hate relationship with this trail. Its an amazing trail but I hate the crowds of families always on it.

Busy day at Grinnell
A nice way to experience Grinnell Glacier Basin in relative solitude on a day when hundreds of people were in the area.

Spectacular Views
I now can't recommend doing Grinnell Glacier trail without doing Angel Wing! It's the best view of the glacier hands down. Glad I had the whole mound to myself at the same time.

Long Hike That's Worth the Effort
Hiked with friends Julie, James, and Theresa. It makes for a full day when you drive to and from Great Falls for this hike, but the views all along the trail and from the summit are worth it. This is one of Glacier's "minor" summits that are every bit as spectacular as the the big peaks.

Go Past the Summit
Past the summit, (out onto an "arm") which is ripe with bighorn sheep (try not to step in their "beds"), there is one of the most glorius views in Glacier, capturing the whole Grinnell Glacier Trail, Grinnell Mountain, and thousands of feet of thin waterfall all in one shot. The approach goes from the Glacier over some very scored and scoured rock forms, a fine hour passed in variety of sight.
...if you already made it to the glacier! One of my first (slightly) off-trail experiences in Glacier. Climbed with KG. The sheer drop off to Grinnell Lake is vertigo inducing and quite lovely!

Awesome
Climbed up to Grinnel Glacier and saw Angel Wing and couldn't pass it up. Made it up to the summit from Upper Grinnel Lake in 35 minutes (I was moving pretty fast). Awesome views of Grinnel Glacier and of Lower Grinnel Lake. Cool little summit
I hiked the Grinnell Glacier trail and convinced a friend to keep going. The humble first of hopefully many mountains in Glacier Park I will have the good fortune to climb.
Climbed several times. One of my all time favorite views in Glacier. Probably the coldest ford in the park. I would recommend a pair of solid sandals to make the going quicker.

Grinnell Glacier Trail
impressive view of Grinnell Lake beneath Angel Wing's sheer north face. otherwise, the incredible bulks of Mount Gould, Mount Grinnell, and Allen Mountain obscure any other views.
saw four male mountain goats and a golden eagle on the summit.

Grinnell Glacier
It was a cold and cloudy day. We hiked around the south shore of the two lakes because the other side was closed due to bears. Saw a mother and her two cubs directly across the outlet of Lake Josephine. Angel Wing is a nice mountain to climb with a very scenic approach hike to Grinnell Glacier.

Got an early start. We had the trail to ourselves, and paused to enjoy a tourist-free Grinnell Glacier before leaving the trail to make our way to the summit. Luckily it was overcast, and a perfect temperature, but started raining shortly after getting back on the trail. Overall a very enjoyable day in the Mountains. On that trip, I saw more kinds wildflowers and wildlife than ever before in one day.
