Ascending Steep Gully

Looking at a steep gully located on the southwest corner of Gouging Lake, located in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. This gully leads to the ridgetop located west of the Cascade Mountain summit. One of the main reasons for taking this photo was to help demonstrate the substantial size of the gully in relation to a person (shown near bottom of gully). And because the gully wraps around the slopes shown on the left side of this photo, a minimum of 1/3-to-1/2 of the upper gully is not even seen in this photo. Photo taken on May 18, 2011.
