We drove in from the 127 on Saratoga Springs Road, took the first left and headed up to the end of the road. HC and 4WD recommended. We camped and set off in the morning around seven, heading up the wash for about seven miles, where it necked down and became steeper (a few spill overs along here). At the saddle the peak is visible behind a false summit. Some elevation loss here, but nothing bad. Great views from the summit. Hike was approximately 15+ miles round trip.

27 Peaks in 21 Days
What others have already stated about the north approach road is true. It's in bad shape but still possible with high clearance and 4 wheel drive. The hike itself was a bit long but a lot of fun. The second spring where the thicket is located is an interesting place. This was part of a 21 day hiking road-trip I did with Heather. Other peaks on this trip include:
Pinos, Sawmill, Aliso, Signal, Castle Dome, Ajo, Miller, Superstition BM, Turtle HP, Old Woman, Granite, Cinder Cone 3894', Pahrump, Pinto, Nelson HP, Panamint Butte, Canyon Point, Shadow, Grapevine, Wahguye, Palmer, Stirling, Northshore, Black Mesa, Hamblin, and Little Virgin.
We also visited Heiroglyphic Canyon, Marble Canyon, Cottonwood Canyon, Sheep Spring Canyon, Cadiz Dunes, Mojave Lava Tube, Parowan Gap Dinosaur tracks and numerous pertroglyph sites.

From Old Mormon Spring
We actually started about a mile before Old Mormon Spring and hiked from there. This was the last day of a four day peakbagging trip and the hike along the ridge seemed to go on forever. Nice views from the summit though. I liked seeing all of the military signatures in the register. Not sure why that would be annoying.

Bad Road, Easy Climb
The road from the highway was in worse shape than described previously. I drove my Exterra about a mile past the Mormon Springs intersection and parked in a wide pull out. From there I simply hiked up the 4x4 road up past the communication towers, and shortly past there went up the first of two "steep, loose slopes" (aren't they all?) to the ridge leading to the summit. A good use trail picked up and I followed it all the way to the top. Beautiful weather. Familiar names in the register. What was annoying, though, were all the signatures from military guys who flew their helicopters up there. Maybe they should have their own register? Just sayin' All in all, a 12 mile round trip. First sun burn of the year.

East Ridge
Easy drive up to the radio tower in my Tundra. The washouts were easily negotiable. Could have driven further, but it was a fine morning and I felt like walking. Visibility was probably 100 miles. I could see Whitney, Charleston Peak, Telescope Peak, Olancha Peak, Baldy, San Berdoo, and innumerable other summits and ranges. Well worth the effort. A little over 3 hours truck-to-truck. Low range gears on the way down saved my brakes, but was not needed on the way up.

Great 4x4 drive
In from the east via Old Mormon Spring, drove all the way past the solar communication station without an issue in a 4x4 Tacoma. Very enjoyable drive followed by a nice hike along the ridge.
Did not have any issues with slickrock on this trip, just standard 4x4. The two washouts on the way down from the solar station were a bit nerve-racking, but over with very quickly.

The Poulin Route
Camped at the canyon head as Dennis suggested. Definitely a jeep route to get there (needed lockers and sway bar release to get past slick rock brief section, as did Dennis). The new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Trail Edition really got a workout!
6 hr 14mins jeep to jeep. 3667 net elev gain + 815 ft extra. 9.4 mile round trip.

Finally
Fearing it was nothing more than a long slog, it took me years to finally tick this puppy off. And as it turned out, it was a fine peak. I really, really enjoyed it.

I'm not sure I took the correct road in; it was rocky and a little nasty for my Outback. I decided to get a bit of exercise, and parked the car after 5.x mile from route 127. Well actually, I decided to preserve my car.
The RT was 12 miles, 4700' accumulated gain (there are a lot of ups and downs on little lumps); just under 5 hrs car2car, with a healthy stay on top (but I hadn't done Kingston just before!).
The peak was better than I expected; perhaps the crisp day (with some hard-packed snow), feeling of vast isolation, and decent views helped.
After all, this is one of Zdon's favorite peaks!

After hiking up Kingston in the morning, Rick and I drove over here. We made it to Mormon Spring in Rick's 4Runner before deciding to hoof it the rest of the way. The drive from Kingston was longer than it looked on the map, so we started about 3pm or so... and the hike took longer than expected too (about 5.5 hrs RT). We made it up to the summit around sunset, after encountering seemingly a dozen or so false summits along the way, and hiked back most of the way by headlamp. Two mediocre peaks, but it was nice to be able to tick them both off on the same day.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly gyros at the Mad Greek in Baker. They seemed much tastier than I remembered. I am now planning many more trips to the Mojave desert as an excuse to eat here again.
