Beautiful!
With the gore-tex experience tour lead by British mountain guides. Got a little turned around in the dark and fog finding our way to the summit ridge. Once there though, we got above the clouds for a beautiful ridge climb to the summit. Seven hours at a moderate pace with a number of stops to the summit. Great day!

Success
Hell of a struggle from Berghotel Schwarenbach, got a tad lost in the early dark hours, but made the top eventually in 7 hours. Zackengrat Glacier a bit of a nightmare, but what a view from the top
Climbed the Zackengrat from a bivy. Excellent weather and great views!

Route climbed: Zackengrat
Bart Verstegen and me made a bivac on a steep green slope before before entering the valley. Nice route, cloudy near the summit en therefore difficult to find the summit from the 'pre-summit'... Nice acclimatisation tour.

Schwarzgletscher & Zackengrat
The Schwarzgletscher was a big ice field, some screws are necessary, there was a very high danger of falling rocks, all the time were rocks and ice falling from the Zackengrat, blown from the wind, and on the Zackengrat heavy storms so we had to turn back.
I hiked up to the Lotschenpass from Kandersteg with a group of boy scouts, and after climbing up the little glacier we stayed at the LotschenHut for the night. On the way up we I got to use an ice axe for the first time to practice different kinds of self-arrests, which was pretty fun. We went back down the other side the next morning, with nice views of the Pennine Alps in the distance to the south. This was my first big hike.
Route Climbed: Zackengrat from Hotel Schwarenbach Date Climbed: July 9th 1995
the day started with red clouds at dawn - no good sign concerning the weather. But surprisingly it develloped to a beautiful day with blue sky and a great panorama to the Pennine Alps south of the Rhone valley. An exhausting but great day in the mountains.
