Barley Flats Road
Got a late after work 7:00 p.m. start on this one as I tagged Mooney and Sally earlier. The scrub overgrowth surrounding the water tank is now very challenging after heavy winter rain. Views from the last of the evening sunset were impressive. Explored the summit buildings a bit before heading back down. Off the mountain by 9:00 p.m. and during the drive down just missed hitting a bear crossing the road.

Took the road
Views from the water tower were nice, especially with the colors changing near sunset. Saw what appeared to be a coyote on the road.

Barley Flats Road
Ho-hum hike up the road. Good views pretty much all of the way. Summit is really overgrown with lots of poodle-dog bush in the area. Peak 4 of 4 after Josephine, Vetter & Mooney.

Nice Views from Water Tank
Walked up the road to the top where there are efforts underway to rehabilitate the area with saplings...hopefully before I die the saplings will have grown to mature trees! View from the top of the water tank is nice.

With Lawlor
Nice ~7.5 mile loop from Red Box TH. S ridge direct to Lawlor, then North down the ridgetop all the way to where the trail joins the road to Barley Flats. Absolutely beautiful day, freshly blue-painted helipad. Walked back along the seriously overgrown fire road to where it rejoins the trail near Red Box.

Road
Hiked up this boring road after hiking Josehpine, Strawberry, and Lawlor earlier in the day. Nice views from the top, though now that all of those pesky trees have burned...

Hike up the road
With my dad. We found a rattlesnake alongside the road and messed with it. Most fun all day!

Up the road
A silly peak with no views that should have been excised from the HPS list years ago. Interesting wandering around the abandoned camp site at the top. Trip Report

From Lawlor
Hiked from Red Box to Mt. Lawlor and continued on the ridge to Barley Flats. Then took the Alder Creek trail to the road and climbed the southwest ridge of Vetter to its summit.

Is a flat a peak?
I climbed this via Route 1 in the opposite direction. I had held off on this one since hiking to a flat with a watertower didn't seem very interesting. It wasn't but I liked the ridge over to Lawlor, also climbed Strawberry.

Numerous Times
I have hiked and run to and from Barley Flats. I enjoy the forested ridge to the summit. I must say, though, that as of the last time I did what I refer to as Route 1 in my page, the condition of the Barley Flats Trail made much of the descent very unpleasant.
