Only took an hour to get here from Saddleback but from the parking area via five other peaks starting at Lower Wolf Jaw it was a solid seven hour hike. This was my turn around point to head back out and nail Pyramid and Sawteeth on the return.
Did a loop from the Garden with Mt Haystack, Basin Mt and Saddleback Mt. 12 hour day and well worth it, it was perfect weather to be out. Basin has a lot of cool, small scrambles on the way up the west side. Views were also great from up here. #45/46.

Basin Climb
So much fun to climb this as early winter storms pound the summit. Climbed in conjunction with Saddleback as a traverse in full packs from Bushnell Falls to Johns Brook Lodge.

Some steep sections
Summited Basin Mountain 4827' on a clear, beautiful Sunday the day before Colombus day. Our group of 3 parked at the Marcy Field lot, took the bus to the Garden trailhead, and hiked in a bit past Johns Brook Lodge to set up camp. We summited Haystack, Basin, and Saddleback on Sunday, and hiked out from the JBL area on Monday morning in the rain. Had a great breakfast at Noonmark Diner!
The hike up from the col between Haystack and Basin is quite steep in parts, but otherwise wasn't too demanding. The reason it felt so hard was due to us summiting Haystack and getting very tired in the process. The summit of Basin is awesome, but we experienced some good bursts of wind, so we didn't linger too long since we still had to get down to the col between Basin and Saddlback, then climb up and over Saddleback to Ore Bed.

Humidity mixed with sweat and bug dope makes for a strange perfume.
Hiked to Basin from Slant Rock and to Saddleback. After lunch we did Gothic and Pyramid Peak. On the way down we hit Sawteeth. Only remaining was the long walk back to the car in St Huberts. Long day, but super view all around especially on Pyramid!

After camping at Bushnell and hitting Haystack, I cruised over to Basin.. Let me tell ya, that trail is STEEP heading up from the intersection of the Haystack Trail and the Range Trail. It was awesome. The trail goes vertical here, with the exception of small flat stretch. Basin was really nice, right up there with any other GR peak. The panoramic view includes Haystack and Marcy but it also gives a great look over the the Mac Range.

Revisit to beef up my climber's logs. Great loop with Saddleback. Love that single track trail that leads from the col.

Just like Haystack, this is a long haul to get to. Tough one, which holds great views. I went on to Saddleback afterwards. I went up the Shorey shortcut, and then the Range Trail.
