Bear hangs in misery

The skies just cut loose on us in Sassafras Gap. Our bear hang, along with as "permanent bear hang gone wrong," below Round Top.

When...

I was a kid backpacking that area there were almost no bears. Now the place is packed with them.

Bob,

We still have not encountered a bear on our AT adventures, but attribute that in part to keeping a clean camp. There's still some educational opportunities, however, among other campers. You know, to the tune of: No, you CANNOT leave the peanut butter and pitas out all night on the railing of the shelter. DUH! =)

If you go through NC north of the GA border you stand a very high chance of seeing a bear. The bear density through that area all the way to the Smokies is extremely high these days. Especially around the Standing Indian vicinity.
