Trade route
Low clouds / dense fog made us rethink our loop route up the arĂȘte, so we stuck for the trade/tourist route. I didn't mind - we made good time <3 hrs up - and met fantastic people along the way. Amazing views of surrounding water and mountains - this is one of the most beautiful places on earth! I feel fortunate to have set foot on this summit.

normal route
Normal route, with more than 350 people on the way. Fog above 900m in the morning, higher in the afternoon. I didn't expect so many people up there!

Many a year ago
Scrambled up with a church summer camp group, then down the switchbacks. Reckon I'd appreciate it a lot more these days!
Four times on it, only got a view this day! Winter really does make it a more interesting prospect. Despite the early start, it was worth it to have the skies clear on the descent to see the highlands in their glory.

Bad weather
Climbed with sierramtngoat. We were supposed to do a traverse on the arete, but the low clouds and wind made that a poor choice. So we stuck to the main route.

Did this as part of a 3 Peaks charity challenge. We started around 0100 in the morning. Long, steep slog to the summit, but there were some gorgeous views of the Highlands from its slopes.

Ben Nevis
Stayed in the hostel at the trailhead. Had beautiful sunny weather for the hike to the summit, unusual for Scotland. Beautiful country, memorable experience.

Got lucky
Woke up to a beautiful sunny day and my Ben Nevis hike was planned in May!! Could not have been luckier. A little fog rolled across the summit from time to time but otherwise spectacular views in all directions.

Ben Nevis - Mountain track
Final mountain of the week. My third mountain, Ben Nevis via the mountain track. Did this one alone as the guided group was cancelled the day before. A lot of fun.
Tried the arete, but it was far scarier than expected. Quite an easy walk up via the standard route. Enjoyed the trip.

Pony Track
Was supposed to go up via the Carn Mor Dearg ArĂȘte, but was denied by bad weather. Hiked up via the Pony Track with with Alan and Dave.

2450 meters of ascent
Attempted to scale the Ben via CMD Arete first but failed high on Carn Mor Dearg thanks to treacherous snow fields and zero visibility. A plod up the Mountain Track set the record straight but at a cost: My total ascent on this day added up to 2450 meters. That's if I had climbed the Ben two times back to back. It sure felt like it.

Winter climb
Had a great time, this was the first time up Ben, a few years later a few friends and I did a summer day hike up. Always a great time in Ft William.
Long time ago... Started from the Caledonian Canal at Banavie via Allt A Mhulinn and then on to the main drag. Next time, camped in Glen Nevis. Up early and down in time for a 10am train to Mallaig.
