Drive and Short Hike
Last week road was blocked by deep patches of snow at lower elevations. Today it was clear almost all the way. My first trip up, stopped short of the summit in my car then hiked a short distance farther. Smoke from Canadian fires obscured the view, but still very nice scenes of Star Valley. Could see my house in south Alpine, nice touch.
I live in the Wyoming side of Star Valley and Black Mountain dominates the view from one side of my home. From the summit I can see my house so it is a truly backyard peak for me. We have driven to the top, but the gate seems to mostly be closed. We now ride a 4 wheeler or hike up there. It is a great view to all of the surrounding areas. They keep the road in good condition because of the giant communication towers on top. In winter the trail is in good condition for snowmobiles for the same reason. A beautiful mountain in a great setting.

Black
I rode my mtn bike and my dad joined me on his e-bike. We gained about 3000 in elevation. The views from the top were really nice. It was a clear day. We could see Star Valley and Palisades really well. Also the Grand Teton was visible including Mt Owen and Teewinot.

Short hike
I had been in the area doing Big Elk with Victor Zhou and after Victor left for home, I stayed to do Red Ridge the day before. I hit this one on the way home and found it to be pretty much a drive up, which was a nice change after the effort required on Red Ridge. Unfortunately the skies were very smokey from fires elsewhere and that marred the photographic opportunities of seeing this area in all of its true beauty. The hike to the high point was easy and I was over and back to my truck in less than an hour.
