The creator of this page suggests to start from Glassmine Falls overlook. While this is certainly feasible, it's not necessarily the most logical from either direction (unless you would like to add some distance to your hike). From the same side of Blackstock Knob, Walker Knob Overlook would be nearly directly at the trailhead.
Another option, and the one I chose, is to hike Blackstock Knob from the opposite side. To reach the trail hear start up the road to Mount Mitchell and park near the Buncombe Horse Range Trail. On the opposite side of the road from the Buncombe Trail is the trail to Blackstock knob. It's ~3.5 miles to Blackstock from here, and you could take the trail all the way to the Walker Knob Overlook.
Another nice thing is that the trail up Blackstock meets other trails on each end that you could use to make a long dayhike, or maybe a night or two out.
