Blanca Peak from Ellingwood Point

Blanca Peak from Ellingwood Point

The legendary Ken Nolan and Jean Aschenbrenner descend Ellingwood Point's east ridge after a successful winter summit. The striking northwest face of Blanca Peak dominates the view and the Spanish Peaks can be seen in the distance. Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Colorado. February 2009.

Fair Blanca

Are these fine ridges made of solid or chossy rock?

Re: Fair Blanca

The rock is solid for the most part and there is a lot of quality scrambling here. The ridge between Blanca & Little Bear is an absolute classic.

I have no idea who

Jean and Ken are, but that's one of the most
awesome "knife-edge" ridges I've ever seen!

Re: I have no idea who

Thanks! Ken & Jean have a long and interesting climbing history, particularly in Colorado. Among other things, Jean was the 1st woman to climb every peak above 13,000 ft here.
