Blanca in Spring
Climbed it a while ago. Lots of fun, still covered in snow and the lakes were mostly iced over. Definitely a long climb, we did it in two days: the first went to Como Lake, the second summited.
Hiked up the Como Lake Road from 8,200 ft. This thing was a beast. Hardest part of the entire climb. Camped at Como Lake and climbed Blanca next day.

Traverse
LB / Blanca Traverse- great exposure!!! This one is surely a mental challenge, staying focused on every foot and hand hold for 2+ hours is crucial. Scrambled over to Ellingwood to make it a day.
Beautiful place, although the jeeps near the lake kind of ruined it all a little bit for me. It hailed/rained most of the night before. The weather prevented me from doing Little Bear and Ellingwood in 2006.

traverse from Ellingwood
Fun traverse from Ellingwood. I tried to stay as high on the ridge as possible. It is very solid and fun! Memorable mountain!

high, airy fun from Ellingwood
Loved walking along the ridge top from Ellingwood Point with 1000+ feet of exposure; thrilling if you like that sort of thing. I felt that someone from the group ought to pee off the drop, so I took care of that.
Climbed with Jamie Nellis via Ellingwood Point. Great day, summited at 10am to extensive views in every direction!

from Lake Como road
Parked 1.8 miles above the highway 150 turnoff. Hiked up the 4wd road and camped overnight about a half mile above Lake Como. It's a hot, brutal trek that climbs over 4,000 feet on six miles of the roughest road you can imagine. Got up early the next morning and climbed the final 2,300 ft to the summit.

Como Road
All the way from the bottom as a day hike. That road is a mental slog. The summit ridge of Blanca is a treat, though. 6 total hours from bottom to top with Tanya, then went over to Ellingwood.
My partner was too heavy and kept post holing in the crusty snow. I thought lite thoughts and made it to the steep, hard, snow ice with energy left to top out. I should have stayed on the summit longer. I didn't savor it.

My 2nd 14er
I drove up from ABQ and met a friend from Denver. We hiked in the Lake Como road in the dark and climbed Blanca and Ellingwood the next day. This was when I realized that climbing 14er was hard work!

crazy road
The road was the main adventure. Surely the worst 4wd road in the state

Snow climb on Blanca
Wow- what a SNOW climb! We used our ice axes much of the way. The main trail was covered, so we were adventurous and axed our way straight up the face of Blanca... summiting from the middle of the face. The "ally" we climbed would be nasty nasty in the summer as it is a straight/narrow/steep scree gully.
