I LOVE THIS MOUNTAIN......One of my first experiences of winter hills. And I wont stop coming. Sharp edge is awesome, and in winter its a mini epic. The ridges up or down, Halls fell, Doddick....all make this mountain a pocket alp.

From Threlkeld
Via sharp edge. Did this as part of a larger route including Blease Fell (805 m), Skiddaw Little Man (865 m), Skiddaw (931 m), Ullock Pike (692 m), Long Side (734 m) and Carl Side (746 m) then via Millbeck back to Thelkeld. Approx. 26 miles in total.

A 'Mountaineers Mountain'
Summit 6 times so far (5 of which were over Sharp Edge - which is my opinion is the best ridge in Lakeland). Cloudy Day on the 3rd July 2012, rained, windy - no Sharp Edge that time! All previous ascents were in clear dry weather. Would not recommend in poor weather!

With Leila & Jake the dog
On a snowy day in the cold snap at the end of march 2008. Would have liked to have gone up Sharp Edge but the normal route was more prudent with Jake, our then 5 year old golden retriever.
In a previous life back in the late 1980's I once flew off this mountain on a paraglider.

iPhone Death
Climbed in howling winds driving the snow into our faces. Route from Threlkeld. My iPhone died as it wasn't resilient to the wind chill. The experience was worth every penny.

Sharp Edge
Excellent scramble up Sharp Edge, descended via Gategill.
The ascent of Halls fell ridge and descent of Sharp Edge is a classic or the other way round too.

Sharp Edge, January 23, 2010
Pen wanted to sample some classic Lake District terrain in winter so on our first day there (1/23/10) we scrambled up the Sharp Edge on Blencathra. From the top of the ridge, we followed the descent line SW to Knowe Crags, then sharply South and East contouring back to our car at Scales Car Park. The undisputed crux of the day was downclimbing the short wet wall before crossing the creek by Doddick Fell! Wonderful circuit, clear, beautiful day. The Edge is as slick as they say...

Blencathra
Up Sharp Edge, down Hall's Fell Ridge as far as I remember, with my Irish mate Colm, after scrambling Scaffell and Scafell Pike the day before.
