You might mention this point is the highest point in McDowell County. I was here back in 2000 and took no photos (it was foggy and gloomy). Thanks for the page.
Will do, thanks for the suggestion. It's the junction of 3 counties, but the other two (Buncombe & Yancey) would have higher summits, so McDowell is the one.
Thanks for posting this peak. I have driven by MM 355 on the Parkway a number of times and I know I don't remember seeing this little side road, but I'm glad to know it's there! Always looking for a good hike in the Blue Ridge, particularly one with a little solitude!
The road's a little hard to spot--that's why I advised people to go the the NC 128 turnoff first and then drive the half mile toward Va. watching for the first little turnoff on the right. Can't go wrong if you do it that way.
Looking at your terrific profile picture, you could definitely help me out with some upgraded photography in this area! Got anything we could add to Pinnacle or Graybeard or Great Craggies pages?

Pinnacle ParkYou can also access the peak from the trail leading from Pinnacle Park in Sylva, NC.

Re: Pinnacle ParkBob, I'm doubtful about that. Isn't Sylva 50 miles west, over past Waynesville? I think you're thinking of a different Pinnacle.
