Bonaparte from Pontiac Ridge
The sprawling forested bulk of Bonaparte is shown here. Bonaparte is the 3rd highest [Gypsy & Abercrombie] and 6th most prominent [Moses, Calispell, Huckleberry, Copper Butte & Abercrombie] summit in WA to the East of the Cascades.
Unlike most of the other prominence peaks in Eastern WA, Bonaparte has a key saddle that connects it not to higher WA/ID peaks but rather with higher peaks of Canada. It also lacks the deep glacial carved key saddles of some of the aforementioned more prominent peaks. I would say that while it may not be first in topographic prominence, it is as least as prominent visually as any peak in Eastern WA. This is especially true as some of the other major high points like Copper Butte, Oregon Butte, Gypsy, Huckleberry and perhaps Calispell are just the highest bump on their respective ridge systems. Bonaparte, Moses and Spokane are the three most impressive in terms of singular mtns in my opinion with Bonaparte being my favorite of those three.
