Boulder Field 1

Boulder Field 1

The long boulder field leading to Black Canyon Lake. It is over a mile of scrambling and rock hopping. There is actually a use trail along the right side, and although it does not eliminate all the boulder travel, it cuts a good bit and provides better footing. Thunder Mountain is the peak in the center with the long slope going up and right. Beartooth Mountains, MT-- June 2010

Stay in the valley!

When I was here we went up along this same boulderfield but when we returned, staying on the grass and in the trees at the bottom of the valley down and to the right was MUCH better!

Re: Stay in the valley!

That's the way I went on the return as well. Unfortunately, I got off-route near where the forest completely takes over again and wound up crashing along the drainage all the way back, which was nasty at times.
