Queen's Mine Route
Not denied this time, finally tagged State HP #14 with a cool group of compadres - one planned, met 3 more. Trail/route is very easy to follow and is only a slippery slog part of the way. If you're hating the scree follow the rocky ridge direct from 12,200' to 12,600' for some easy class 3/class 2 boulder climbing. Only damper on the day was my wonderful head cold and the wind.

Fun and Easy
Hiked to the saddle and camped then hiked to the top and out the 2nd day. It was really cold, windy and snowy, but a lot of fun. 2nd state highest peak I did.
After failing twice on the Queen Mine route in winter conditions, I decided to give it a try in the summer. Cruised up and down on a beautiful day with a guy and a girl (must have been K9H2OBearer) from Nevada not far behind. Had nice conversation and exchanged picture taking favors with them on the summit. I left a Nevada flag in the register box to go with the Boundary Peak flag. HP40
Beautiful, warm and calm day, not a cloud to be seen. Summited with Greg at 10:30am after beginning at 7:11. Nice guy from Dallas was up there also. Had the date wrong in the register though (wrote 7-27)...my bad.

Success
Climbed via Queen Mine Route. Parked at Kennedy Pass. My Jeep Wrangler and friends Dodge Durango had no problems with the road. Also climbed Mount Montgomery. A lot of loose talus and screw. Had beautiful weather

from Trail Canyon
I hiked this one with Steven and Tyrel Stembridge. Weather was warm with a slight breeze on top. If I did it again I think I would approach from Queen Mine. Our route via Trail Canyon took 5 hours up and 2.25 hours down
A solo climb up the Trail Canyon variation route and ended up having the mountain to myself. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the temperature was just right. I used gaitors on the way down the scree field to avoid getting pebbles and gravel in my boots. The scree was difficult at times but getting over to parts with larger rocks is the key - that and pacing yourself.

Boundary via Queens Mine
Went up solo and camped out at Queen Mine. Road to mine is fine for any car -- took 40 minutes from highway on way up and 30 on way down. No cell signal at trailhead. Hike was straightforward climb with well marked trail. No snow left. Just shy of the summit, met two hikers from East Coast who had approached from Trail Canyon -- Kent (38th highpoint) and Corey -- nice to chat with after being alone for while. We were the only three people on the mountain that day. Made the mistake of going too far below the ridge on the final climb which was a lot more scree/sand than the firmer rock-hopping by staying on the ridge... which caused me to scrap my plans for Montgomery. Wild horses were incredible but caused a little nervousness on hike down when the primary stallion stayed planted on the trail just past the saddle and stared me down for five minutes. He finally moved and when I walked past I could see his foal resting under the nearby tree. Perhaps 10 wild horses in all.

Boundary Peak - I work out!
Not much snow left, just a little near the summit. Still cold and windy on the ridge line. We were able to drive all the way up to the saddle next to the Queens Mine Trailhead.

Perfect Day
The weather was perfect couldn't ask for a better day.
Collected the Nevada state highpoint on Independence Day. Tough climb, sometimes over loose scree, but the views of the Sierras from the summit offset all the hardship. It was a perfect summer day. And we saw the wild horses too.

Winter Climb
Could not make it to the mine. Had to hike about a 1.5 miles farther. Ankle to knee high snow on the lower mountain with drifts and bare rock/scree on the upper mountain. Kicked a lot of steps. We had ice axe, but was not really necessary. Fun climb with my brother.

No Snow
Drove all the way to Queen Mine with no problem at all. Started at 5:30 and summited at 11:00am. Sub-zero temps all day long. So cold! There was hardly any snow at all. We brought crampons and ice axes and didn't have to use them at all. I left my trekking poles on Montgomery, if you find them, please PM me! Awesome summit with awesome views.

Snow and the Flu
I had the flu and it was a tough day. Very remote. Saw only one person all day. We parked at the wrong spot and it made the trip much longer than it should have been. A couple feet of snow and some wild horses, glissading. A real gem.

col camp
Camped out in the Col to the north. Really windy. No tent. Watched shooting stars.
After a nearly two-year hiatus from State Highpointing, a friend and I sought out, and successfully summited, Boundary Peak.
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE: The so-called "scree" is just loose gravelly-sand... kind of annoying but manageable. The loosest stuff is on the lower slopes; the upper slopes are bouldery. Also, there is a well-defined trail basically leading from the Trail Canyon TH to the summit; no scrambling needed and very easy to follow. I wouldn't rate this as a peak for amateur hikers, but it is not very difficult, either.
