Super fun
Started from the Queen Canyon trailhead. Beautiful, impressive mountain in person. Considered going to Montgomery, but thought better of it because of PM t-storms.

Great hike
Dont underestimate this mountain. Lots of loose scree for hours. Bring plenty of water....although there was a good water source lower on the mountain, there is nothing above treeline.
We got lucky as two days after the summit it snowed and covered the summit.

Another Successful Highpoint
Left very early from Mammoth Lakes with Sally. Went up the standard route carrying way too much water (all the desert peak warnings). Stashed it half way up and finished the fun scramble to the top. Was planning on going over to Montgomery Peak in CA but opted not to due to time.
Bluebird day without smoke from the western forest fires or wind. Expected the scree to be worse than some reported.

Boundary Peak Summitt
Awesome day, great weather and good company. This was a remote area with a long access road. Camped at the trailhead the night before and got an early start. Nice views from the top.

Just a ridge walk
After much research and discussion with climbing partner, came to the conclusion this was ridge walk. With post-COVID lungs and 3 months of couch surfing, this seemed like a good idea to start with. Half way into the hike in (which seemed like a nice hike) we came around the corner, and in the words of my friend “What the actual f*ck” the trail straight up begins. 1.4 miles up 2300 feet vertical of boulder hopping, scree climbing and route finding. Yay for the summit. Now to get down. Side note: breathed better at 13,000 feet then I did in a year post MERS and COVID. This should be studied.

Wild Mustangs and Whiskey
Took this Class 1 for granted and it kicked my butt. Amazing views of the wild horses and celebrated with whiskey like the prospectors of old.
I totally took it for granted. Just a ridge walk they say.

Took two attempts. Got rained off on day one at 7:00 am. Drove to Mono Lake & Bodie in Cali.
Early start the second day under BRUTAL winds. Almost turned back multiple times.
Had to bail on Montgomery Peak.

Beautiful Summit from Trail Canyon
Camped near the trailhead. The trail through the canyon is intermittent, but the route is obvious. The trail above the saddle is pretty good until just below the summit when I lost it. Again, it was no problem, but required some scrambling. I reached the summit in a bit less than 4 hours. The weather was perfect. The descent was quick and relatively painless, although I ran out of water. Surprisingly beautiful area. Lots of wildflowers. Patches of snow. Really glad I made the effort to get out there.

September Peakbagging
The road to Queen mine is absolutely horrible. On my first attempt a rock punctured one of my tires and I had to put on the spare and retreat back to Bishop. Came back a week later and made it to Queen mine; still had to hike a mile and 800 feet up to the trailhead. Great climb from there. Surprisingly pleasing scenery for a desert mountain. Hosebag peak is a tough little slog, and it's scrambletastic after that. All in all a pretty good day.
It was a long day getting to the top and down and worth it. Weather was perfect.
Queen Mine road will soon only be passable by high clearance 4x4, unless it gets graded - it's very rutted the entire way up to the Queen Mine.
We climbed the same day as you and I agree. The road was pretty sketchy, even in our rented AWD SUV.
I wish someone would grade the Queen Mine trail itself also. I've never seen so much scree in my life. The upper half of the mountain was an ugly climb.
