Nice pic.

High desert savanna? What kind of trees are they? What part of northern Utah is this?

Re: Nice pic.

Good question, but I'm not sure what kind of trees they are. This is the Wellsville Range located southwest of the city of Logan.

There are interesting limber pine trees in the higher elevations that have been shaped by the strong winds that go over the mountain ridges.

Gotta love the Great

Basin. Thanks, mountaingazelle!
Sorry that my South Willow Lake
photos are so ... ancient. If I
could CLONE myself, I could be
at Deseret Peak and central AZ
at the same time!!! Awesome.
Regards to your beautiful photos.

I believe the trees are some species
of OAK - possibly Wavyleaf Oak.

Re: Gotta love the Great

No problem Larry, those photos of yours are interesting and informative. It’s nice to see what things looked like so many years ago. Thanks for the tree identification. When I think about the Wellsville Mountains, the only plant that comes to mind is stinging nettle. It’s all over the place in summer.

Didn't know that.

When I was in the scouting program,
we did some outings along the East
Fork of the Bear River, and never
ran into nettle. The peaks west of
the Sierra Nevada in CA are notorious
for Poison Oak. Firefighters, as well
as hikers and climbers, have to be on
their toes in the woods.
